The creation of this album begun during a session held in Szumin in early October 2015. The artists who contributed to the project were invited to transform a little house in the woods into a makeshift studio facility. As one might imagine, during their stay experience was shared, musical ideas were given life, synths were tweaked, cables lost, and a number of bad jokes told. And although some finishing touches were added later on,
this album is essentially a collective effort and a unique reflection of the time and place.
Szumin [´sumin] is a village in central-eastern Poland. It is located in the Nadbużański Landscape Park, on the verge of the Puszcza Biała (White Wilderness). The surrounding forest and the river Bug are a natural habitat for wild animals such as deer, moose and various species of birds and fish. The unique area is called “Jegiel“ by the locals. Napoleon’s March to Moscow led through nearby woods. In the 1960s the tiny hamlet was rediscovered by two Warsaw architects – Eugeniusz Lewicki and Tadeusz Szumielewicz. They started inviting friends there, and it quickly became a favourite secret hangout spot for those in the know. This is where Oskar Hansen made his statement “The House as Open Form“ by building a summer residence lacking outer walls. Today, keen excursionists still direct their steps here, wishing to immerse themselves in the singular environment of Jegiel.
